Our hands-on workshops range from making baskets from collected plant materials, carving soapstone figures, making a fire without matches, tanning animal hides, making soap or candles, creating a clay pot and firing it in the village, or sewing clothing you could have worn in 1812.  Each season offers different opportunities to learn new skills so look below to see what we’re doing this year.

Colors From Nature-Natural Dye Workshop

These workshops are intended for individuals or small groups to create a collaborative art project together and gain the knowledge to continue to experiment with different materials at home.

All materials will be included in cost of workshop. The workshops will be held in the Breckinridge Education Center from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm.

Hide Tanning Workshop

During this workshop you will learn how Native Americans made buckskin and get a hands on chance to use both native and modern tools. All participants should wear clothes that will get dirty, pack a lunch, and be prepared for physical activity. Processed deer hides will be used with educational programs and interpretation of the Village on the park. Ages 13 and up.
